• The women’s quarterfinals will conclude with fourth-seeded French Open runner-up, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia tangles with an eighth-seeded Venus Williams, the reigning Wimbledon champ, and ninth-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova takes on 29th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

• Venus is a perfect 4-0 lifetime against Ivanovic, including wins at last year’s Wimbledon and U.S. Open events. Radwanska is 1-0 versus Hantuchova, with the victory coming last year in Zurich.

• Eight meeting between Federer and Blake. All of their previous meetings have been on hard court. In their seven match-ups to date, Blake has won just one set, in their quarterfinal meeting at the 2006 US Open. The US Open is the only major at which the two have met

• If Federer wins today, he will secure a 209th week as the No. 1 player in the world. He has been ranked No. 1 since 2 February 2004 (now in his 208th week, the most consecutive weeks at No. 1) but could lose if he fails to reach the semifinals and Rafael Nadal wins the title

• Blake is the only non-European to advance to the quarterfinals here. European players have provided all four semifinalists at the last three Grand Slam tournaments

• Djokovic and Ferrer are both bidding for a first appearance in the Australian Open semifinals.

• It’s a sixth meeting between these two Top 5 players, with Djokovic edging ahead 2-1 on hard court in previous meetings. Djokovic won their last Grand Slam meeting in the semifinals of the US Open, but Ferrer turned things around on his Tennis Masters Cup debut by defeating Djokovic in his opening match and going on to defeat Nadal, Gasquet and Roddick to reach the final.

• Even though Djokovic has reached the quarterfinals without dropping a set, Ferrer has only been on court for 20 minutes longer so far this tournament
