· Federer and Djokovic will face for the third Grand Slam meeting, sixth straight meeting on hard court
· Djokovic has yet to drop a set here, but Federer has not conceded a set to Djokovic in their previous two Slam meetings at the 2007 Australian Open and 2007 US Open. At last year’s Australian Open, Federer became the first man since Bjorn Borg at 1980 Roland Garros to win a major without dropping a set.
· Federer had a four-match winning streak against his Serbian opponent until AMS Montreal last August, where Djokovic defeated defending champion Federer in the final. The match lasted two hours 13 minutes, and Djokovic won the first set on a tiebreak after Federer had held six set points serving at 6-5.
· On the way to his second AMS title at Montreal, Djokovic defeated the top three players in the world in successive rounds from the quarterfinals onwards. This was the first time a player had achieved this since Boris Becker at 1994 Stockholm, though subsequently David Nalbandian repeated this feat at 2007 AMS Madrid. Five of Djokovic’s seven titles have been won on hard court.
· In contrast, at their last meeting in the final of the US Open, Djokovic held five set points against Federer in the first set and another two in the second but failed to convert.
· Federer’s appearance in the last four here ensures a 209th straight week as the world No. 1, when the new rankings are published on Monday. The top ranking was under threat if Federer had failed to reach the semifinals and Rafael Nadal went on to win the title
· Federer’s 4 hour 27 minute victory over Tipsarevic was the fourth-longest match that he has played, and his joint-longest in terms of number of games at 63 (equalling his 2005 semifinal defeat here against Marat Safin). It was also the longest fifth set in number of games that Federer has played.
· DJOKOVIC is through to his first Australian Open semifinal and so completes a set of Grand Slam semifinal appearances, joining Roger Federer and David Nalbandian as the only three active players to have reached all four Grand Slam semfinals.
· This is the first time that Djokovic has advanced to a Grand Slam semifinal without dropping a set. He and Rafael Nadal were the only players to reach the last four here who have not yet dropped a set, marking the first time since 2004 Wimbledon (Sebastien Grosjean and Andy Roddick) that two players have reached the last four with five straight-sets victories.
· This is the second time in Open Era history, after 2007 Roland Garros, that three Serbian players reached the semifinals of a major. Djokovic, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic reached the last four once again, and Djokovic is bidding to join Ivanovic in the 2008 Australian Open final to mark the first time in history that two Serbians have featured in the final at the same Grand Slam.

Djokovic non ha mai perso un set, ma Federer non ha concesso alcun set al serbo nei due precedenti in un major (2007 Australian Open and 2007 US Open). Nell’ultimo Australian Open, Federer divenne il primo uomo dai tempi di Borg (1980 Roland Garros) a vincere uno slam senza perdere un set.
Federer vantava una striscia vincente di 4 match col serbo, prima dell’ AMS di Montreal dello scorso agosto, quando Djokovic lo sconfisse in finale. Il match durò 2 ore e 13 minuti, con Djokovic che si aggiudicò il tie-break del primo set dopo aver annullato ben 6 set point ad un Federer che aveva servito per il set sul 6-5.
Nel torneo canadese, il serbo era riuscito nell’impresa di battere i primi 3 giocatori del mondo negli ultimi 3 turni. L’ultimo a riuscirci era stato Boris Becker a Stoccolma nel 1994. Qualche mese dopo fu Nalbandian a ripetere l’impresa all’ AMS Madrid. 5 dei 7 tornei vinti da Nole sono stati ottenuti sul veloce
L’ultimo precedente tra i 2 risale alla finale degli Us Open, con Djokovic che non riuscì a concretizzare 5 set point nel primo set e 2 nel secondo
Federer, approdando in semifinale, si è assicurato per la 209° settimana consecutiva la posizione numero 1 del mondo. Il suo primato poteva essere messo in discussione da una sua uscita prima delle semifinali, e dalla contemporanea vittoria del torneo dello slam
Le 4 ore e 27 minuti della partita su Tipsarevic, rappresentano la durata maggiore per un match dello svizzero, che nello stesso match ha giocato il maggior numero di games (63), eguagliando il numero dei giochi della semifinale persa nel 2005 contro Safin. Sempre contro Tipsarevic, lo svizzero ha giocato il quinto set più lungo (in termini di game) della sua carriera
Djokovic, raggiungendo la sua prima semifinale degli Open di Australia, è diventato il terzo tennista in attività ad essere approdato in una semifinale di uno slam in tutti e 4 i major
Questa è la prima volta che il serbo raggiunge la semifinale di uno slam senza perdere un set. Non accadeva che fosssero addirittura in 2 ad avere un cammino immacolato fino alla semifinale (Nole assieme a Nadal) dall’edizione 2004 di Wimbledon (Sebastien Grosjean and Andy Roddick)
Questa è la seconda volta nell’era Open che 3 serbi (Djokovic, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic) giungono in una semifinale di un major. Era accaduto lo scorso anno al Roland Garros. Novak tenta di raggiungere in finale la Ivanovic, per quella che sarebbe una prima assoluta nella storia del tennis, con 2 serbi in una finale dello stesso slam
