Opening proceedings on Rod Laver Arena will be Serbian Ana Ivanovic (4), who faces rising star Caroline Wozniacki. The 17-year-old Dane has had a brilliant run thus far, which has included wins over higher ranked players Alona Bondarenko and Gisela Dulko.
Following on the main court will be six-time grand slam champion Venus Williams (8). The American faces Poland’s Marta Domachowska in a bid to reach the quarterfinals.
The last match of the day on Rod Laver Arena features world No.1 Roger Federer (1) in action against Czech Tomas Berdych (13). The pair will meet for the seventh time, with Berdych having beaten Federer just once (at the Olympics in 2004).
In the first match of the night session Aussie Lleyton Hewitt (19) will be aiming to make the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for just the second time when he clashes with world No.3 Novak Djokovic (3). The Serb beat Hewitt when they played at Wimbledon last year, while Hewitt came out on top when they met at the US Open in 2006.
Doubles action then hits Rod Laver Arena for the first time this tournament when Australian Alicia Molik joins India’s Sania Mirza to play Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka and Israeli Shahar Peer.
Action on Vodafone Arena will include a fourth round clash between Spaniards Juan Carlos Ferrero (22) and David Ferrer (5), as well as Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova (9) against Russian Maria Kirilenko (27).

Piccolo profilo tecnico di Bernard Tomic, la speranza australiana, classe ‘92 e già fra i più forti junior del mondo, che ho visto per la prima volta giocare nel primo turno del torneo juniores dell’AUS Open grazie allo streaming multicampo di eurosport.
A me è sembrato davvero forte, in prospettiva.
Non è basso come qualcuno dice, sarà alto circa 1,80. E’ magro, ma può benissimo irrobustirsi, ed ha un gran talento.
Colpo migliore il rovescio bimane, naturale, fluido, penetrante, giocato in tutte le direzioni ma micidiale in lungolinea.
Dritto più costruito, meno fluido, potente ma che tende a perdersi ogni tanto.
Servizio non potentissimo ma molto preciso e difficile da leggere per il movimento velocissimo, gli ha portato parecchi punti.
Ottimo tocco, ottimo anticipo, grande abilità nell’appoggiarsi ai colpi avversari, e soprattutto grande capacità di cambiare ritmo. Il suo avversario di oggi, un cinese, tale Wu, era più potente ma più grezzo.
Tomic ha giocato benissimo i punti importanti e dopo un primo set lottato ha vinto in scioltezza 76 62.
A me ha ricordato, nel modo di giocare, Miroslav “Gattone” Mecir.
Se mette qualche chilo di muscoli saranno guai per tutti. E’ forte.

per la cronaca Federer ha vinto il suo match contro Berdych 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
una bella partita, molto combattuta fino al tie-break del secondo set quando Federer ha dovuto salvare parecchie palle del set prima di aggiudicarsi il set lui stesso.
secondo me i 5 sets giocati contro Tipsarevic due giorni fa gli sono serviti oggi per trovare forma e concentrazione nei momenti difficili.

Tanto clamore per nulla…come da copione, Federer e Blake ai quarti con percorso netto. Cilic rimandato alla prossima.
