· Sydney doubles champions Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga meet across the net this time in the only all-French match-up of the 2008 Australian Open. Both are aiming for a first-time appearance in the quarterfinals here in a repeat of their match-up at last year’s Wimbledon – which Gasquet won.
· No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal faces a third successive French opponent in Paul-Henri Mathieu. Nadal is attempting to match his best result at the Australian Open and advance to the quarterfinals. Mathieu is looking for his first victory in his seventh meeting with the three-time Roland Garros champion.
· Jarkko Nieminen has a seventh career meeting with Philipp Kohlschreiber. The Finn, who is bidding to reach his third Grand Slam quarterfinal, won their first four meetings but the German, champion at Auckland last week, has won their last two and is on an eight-match winning streak.
· Mikhail Youzhny bids to defeat Davis Cup teammate Nikolay Davydenko for the first time and reach his first Australian Open quarterfinal. Davydenko is a three-time quarterfinalist here but Youzhny is undefeated so far this year.
· Vince Spadea, the only man in the draw who has had to play two five-setters to get to the third round, takes on David Ferrer, who in contrast has only had to play five sets so far.
· Top seed Justine Henin returns to action on Sunday against Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh, ranked 158 in the world.
· In other round four women’s singles matches, fifth seed Maria Sharapova continues her campaign against Elena Dementieva and Nicole Vaidisova has the massive task of trying to bring down Serena Williams.
· Local hope Perth’s Casey Dellacqua on Sunday night meets third seed Jelena Jankovic on Rod Laver Arena in another sold out, prime-time match.
